Dyslipidemia
High fats in your blood often signal a traffic jam in your lifestyle or soul.

Dyslipidemia is a quiet trouble in our neighborhoods.
Dyslipidemia means having too much of the "bad" cholesterol (LDL) or triglycerides, or not enough of the "good" kind.
Heart disease takes more lives in our community than cancer does.
It is the number one killer for Black and Brown folk.
We often say "it runs in the family" or "it's just old age."
But nearly half of Black adults have some heart trouble.
That is 1 out of every 2 people you know.

It hits us harder. We are more likely to struggle with this than others. And it often happens at a younger age.
But Why?
It isn't just about food. It is about stress.
When you are in survival mode, taking care of everyone else and working hard, your body gets stressed. That stress raises your sugar and your cholesterol. Even if you eat right.
Dyslipidemia means your body is fighting hard.
It needs real healing, not just another pill.
Dyslipidemia means the fats in your blood are out of balance.
You might have too much LDL (the bad kind), too many triglycerides, or not enough HDL (the good kind that cleans things up).
When your cholesterol stays high, it can build up in your arteries like gunk in a pipe.
Over time, that raises your risk for heart disease, heart attack, and stroke.

This isn't just about a number on a paper.
It's a sign that something deeper is going on:
your metabolism, inflammation, hormones, or even your stress and emotions.
If you really want to heal, you have to go after the root, not just the lab result.
Spirit Listening
Your body and spirit are connected.
Abnormal lipids can also be tied to what's going on inside your heart and mind:
Worry and fear: Carrying stress about money, family, or the future can show up in your body as inflammation and imbalance.
No rest: Running nonstop without taking time to breathe, pray, or rest wears your body down.
Eating your feelings: Using food to cope with sadness, loneliness, or pain instead of dealing with it can lead to unhealthy habits.
Holding grudges: Bitterness and unforgiveness can create stress inside you, physically and emotionally.
Feeling stuck: When you don't feel seen, heard, or on purpose, it's easy to stop caring for yourself.

Your body is not betraying you.
It is communicating with you.

We often view high numbers as a failure. But what if they are an invitation?
To slow down. To set boundaries.
To nourish the temple Yah gave you.
God designed your body to heal.
When we remove the burdens, like the sugar, the stress, the constant striving, the body knows exactly how to find its rhythm again.
This journey isn't about guilt.
It is about stewardship.
It is about honoring the vessel that carries your spirit so you can live out your purpose fully.
But you have to listen to heal.
Rhythms that Heal
High cholesterol is common in our community. But common does not mean normal or acceptable.
To be honest, this condition shows us exactly what is going on, not only in our bodies, but also in our lives.
We have stress and unhealthy habits building up that will eventually cause congestion in our mind and spirit, and vice versa.
Before it gets worse, it can be one of the simplest things to fix if you focus on how you live.
Doctors often look at the number and prescribe a pill. Medication can lower the number fast. But are we really healing? Also, not everyone responds the same to medications.
Two people can have the same LDL number but very different risks and medication responses.
Person A: Sleeps 8 hours, manages stress, eats fiber. (Lower Risk) = May respond well to meds or need fewer meds.
Person B: High stress, high blood sugar, poor sleep, inflammation. (Higher Risk) = May not respond as well to meds and may need more meds.
It may take more medications to work for person B.

The medication might fix the number, but it won't fix the environment that caused the problem. It is not foolproof.
To heal, we have to look at Mind, Body, and Spirit.
Also, we need to have a hard conversation.
The Selfish Truth
We often say, "It's my body, it only affects me."
That is not true. If you have a stroke or heart attack, who has to care for you? The burden falls on your spouse, your children, or your parents.
When we don't take care of ourselves, we unintentionally place a heavy load on the people we love most.
Your Genes Are Listening
You are sending information to your genes right now.
Do you accept that "everyone in the family has this"? In the past and in the future?
Or do you decide to be the cycle breaker?
We can have the genes for high cholesterol, but keep them "turned off" with our choices. We have to save the generation coming after us.
The Mirror: Questions to Ask Yourself
Take a moment. Be honest.
On Coping: When you are stressed, lonely, or overwhelmed, what do you run to?
Food?
Alcohol?
Shutting down?
Scrolling on your phone?
On Faith: What do you actually believe about your body?
Do you see it as a Temple (sacred, worth protecting)?
Or do you see it as a broken machine that is going to fail anyway?
On Truth: What is one habit you are hiding? What is the one thing you know you shouldn't be doing, but you keep telling yourself, "it won't bother me"?
I am a Nurse Practitioner. I could prescribe pills all day. But a pill cannot fix a rhythm.
We need to build habits that help your body heal. And you can do it. Just take it one step at a time.
The Virtual Dispensary
Did You Know?

Movement is Life
When we sit too much, the body "shuts down" its fat-burning engines and your good cholesterol (HDL) drops. Even a 5-minute stretch break tells your metabolism to wake up.
The Survival Mode Tax
Chronic stress keeps you in "fight or flight." This raises your blood sugar and fat levels, specifically storing it around your middle. Peace is a clinical necessity.
The Hand You’re Dealt
Yes, some of us are born with genes that make high cholesterol more likely. But remember: Genes may load the gun, but your daily choices pull the trigger. You still have the power.
Nature is Medicine
Just 20 minutes outside can lower your cortisol (stress hormone), calm inflammation, and help your heart. God’s creation isn't just a view; it’s a part of your healing protocol.
The Cleanup Crew
Think of HDL cholesterol as your internal "garbage truck." It picks up extra gunk and takes it back to the liver for disposal. You hire more crew members by moving your body and eating healthy fats (like avocados and olive oil).
The Midnight Repair Shop
Sleep isn't a luxury; it’s when your body processes food and balances hormones. Skipping sleep disrupts the signals that tell you when you’re actually hungry.
The "Internal Rust"
Cheap, processed oils and a lack of greens create "rust" (inflammation) in your body. This damage makes it easier for cholesterol to get stuck in your pipes.
High Fats in a Silent Whisper
High cholesterol is "silent" because it doesn't always hurt, but your body gives clues. If you’re dealing with constant fatigue, brain fog, or stubborn weight gain, your body is trying to tell you something.
The 60,000-Mile Highway
If you stretched out all your blood vessels, they’d wrap around the Earth twice. Keeping them clear and flexible is how you stay healthy for the long haul.
The Liver is the Factory
About 75% of your cholesterol comes from your liver, not your plate. Healing your metabolism and your liver matters more than just skipping eggs.
Let’s get your vessels clear and your heart strong.
Abnormal fat in the blood is a warning light, not a judgment. We are building a program to help you reverse it so you can reduce your risk of being on more meds and having more hospital stays later. This program will be released soon. Be the first to know.
