Yeast Infection

A healthy vagina naturally contains a balanced ecosystem of bacteria and yeast. The bacteria, primarily Lactobacillus, help maintain a slightly acidic environment to prevent the naturally occurring yeast from growing too quickly.

A yeast infection, also known as vaginal candidiasis, is a common condition that happens when that delicate balance is disrupted and a type of fungus called Candida multiplies out of control.

Why is it so uncomfortable?

When the yeast population explodes, it irritates the sensitive cell walls of the vaginal lining. The sudden overgrowth triggers a localized inflammatory immune response in the body. This inflammation is responsible for the tissue swelling and intense irritation that make the area feel raw, itchy, and uncomfortable.

What makes it grow?

While an overgrowth can occasionally happen without a clear trigger, the natural bacterial balance is most commonly thrown off by:

  • Antibiotics that kill off the protective good bacteria alongside the bad.

  • Hormonal shifts from pregnancy, birth control, or normal menstrual cycles.

  • Elevated blood sugar levels, which provide excess fuel for the yeast.

  • A weakened immune system or elevated stress.

How it feels

Because it causes acute tissue inflammation, a yeast infection brings a very specific and localized set of uncomfortable symptoms. Common signs include:

  • Intense itching and irritation in the vagina and surrounding vulva.

  • A harsh burning sensation, especially during sex or while urinating.

  • Noticeable redness and swelling of the exterior vaginal tissues.

  • Thick, white, odor-free vaginal discharge with a texture often compared to cottage cheese.

Rhythms that Heal

One of the most overlooked parts of freeing yourself from yeast infections is actually understanding where it comes from.

I know the modern medical system has gaslighted us into believing that most of the conditions we have just come out of nowhere at random, but this is not the case - especially for Candida overgrowth.

I see yeast infections as the body's way of alarming us and calling out for deeper support and attention to our vaginal health.

Everything we do every single day is considered our rhythm. These rhythms are our choices and our exposures, and they shape the health of our vaginal ecosystem. When something in our environment or our own habits causes imbalance or just doesn't work with our body, our body wisely gives us a signal in the form of yeast overgrowth.

It's our body's way of saying, "Hey, something needs to change." I encourage members to stop viewing yeast infections as an irritating condition that needs to be quieted with medication or cream.

We have to grow wise and learn how to listen and then respond to it with wisdom.

Pull yourself to the side and ask yourself:

  • Am I nourishing my body with whole, unprocessed foods, or feeding yeast with sugar and processed ingredients?

  • Is my gut health weak? (This will also weaken my lymphatic system and immune defenses).

  • Am I overwhelmed with stress and worry? (This lowers resilience and immunity).

  • Are there products, fabrics, or habits that I'm exposing myself to every day that are disturbing my natural balance?

But even deeper than the physical, we have to go past biology sometimes because a lot of our symptoms are spiritual.

Especially if you are having persistent yeast infections and it doesn't matter how many medications or how many creams you are using - if they still come back, this may mirror a deeper imbalance in your actual soul.

I don't need to be super woo-woo, but we have to remember that we are a conglomerate of mind, body, and spirit, and they are very interconnected, no matter what you believe.

If this could be the case for you, start by reflecting on yourself:

  • Are there boundaries that I have ignored or allowed to be crossed, whether in relationships or with myself?

  • Am I unequally yoked with the partner(s) I am engaging with, and our microbiomes are clashing?

  • Am I carrying unresolved emotional buildup, or do I have childhood trauma that I have left unaddressed for so long?

  • Am I carrying influences that don't belong in my mind, body, and spirit?

Just like the body speaks through physical symptoms, the spirit often will speak through disturbing your life.

That is a call for us to go back to alignment.

The Breakthrough

When we choose to see yeast not as a nuisance but as an actual messenger, this allows us to open the door for deep healing to happen.

It is not just physical - it's emotional and spiritual.

I believe we are more spiritual than we are mental and physical.

This body is our temporary entity.

When you think of it from that perspective, you're going to want to do things that promote your spiritual growth more than what we have here on this Earth.

It brings you back to perspective: This is a pathway and a journey.

We're not just here to quiet things; we're here to build rhythms and have breakthroughs.
